بِسْمِ اللَّهِ
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'There is no wudu for the one who does not mention the name of Allah upon it.'
Before starting الوضوء, say: 'Bismillah' — In the name of Allah. Some scholars consider it واجب to say Bismillah before الوضوء based on the hadith: 'There is no الوضوء for one who does not mention the name of Allah upon it.' This simple declaration sanctifies the act of purification.
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ
Bismillah.
Meaning: In the name of Allah.
Source: Sunan Abu Dawud #101Beginning الوضوء with Bismillah connects the physical act of purification with spiritual intention. النبي (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said: 'There is no الصلاة without purification' (صحيح مسلم 224). Wudu itself is an act of worship — sins fall away with each limb washed, and the one who perfects الوضوء will have their limbs shining with light on the Day of Judgment.
