Inside both Harams, designated الصلاة areas for women are clearly marked on upper floors and specific ground-level sections. The الطواف area around the الكعبة is shared space where men and women perform الطواف together.
In public spaces, strict segregation has largely been relaxed. Shopping malls, markets, and public transport are mixed-gender. Hotels operate without segregation. However, physical contact between unrelated men and women remains socially unacceptable.
During الحج rituals, men and women perform all rites in the same spaces. Family groups stay together throughout. المملكة العربية السعودية now allows women over 45 to travel in organized groups without a mahram.
