Smoking is banned inside both holy مسجدs and camps, with fines up to SAR 200. Most scholars rule smoking as haram, especially during الإحرام.
Smoking is completely prohibited inside and around both المسجد الحرام and Masjid al-Nabawi, including courtyards and surrounding pedestrian areas. It is also banned in منى tents, عرفة encampments, مزدلفة, and the الجمرات area. Fines can reach SAR 200.
From a religious perspective, the majority of contemporary scholars rule smoking as haram due to its clear harm to health. During الإحرام, smoking is strongly discouraged even by those who permit it otherwise.
Many scholars encourage using الحج as motivation to quit permanently. Consider nicotine patches or gum (permitted during الإحرام) to manage cravings. Pharmacies in مكة and المدينة stock cessation aids.
