النبي (صلى الله عليه وسلم) told a woman from the Ansar: 'When رمضان comes, perform العمرة, for العمرة in رمضان is equal to الحج' — and in another narration, 'equal to الحج with me.' This is one of the most powerful incentives in Islamic worship. The reward of a الحج-level الحج is achievable through a much shorter and less expensive العمرة, provided it is performed during the blessed month of رمضان.
However, scholars clarify that this equivalence is in reward, not in fulfilling the obligation. A رمضان العمرة does not replace the واجب الحج for those who meet the conditions of الحج obligation. The hadith encourages the immense barakah (blessing) of combining two great acts of worship — العمرة and رمضان fasting — simultaneously.
Practical considerations for رمضان العمرة: expect significantly higher prices for flights, accommodation, and العمرة packages. The Haram is extremely crowded, especially during the last 10 nights when الحجاج seek Laylat al-Qadr (the Night of Power). Book your package months in advance. Performing العمرة rituals while fasting requires extra planning — many الحجاج perform الطواف and السعي after breaking their fast (Iftar) when they have more energy. Taraweeh الصلوات at the Haram are a life-changing spiritual experience, with hundreds of thousands praying in congregation.
