The green markers correspond to the valley (batn al-wadi) between two small hills where Hagar (Hajar), the wife of Prophet Ibrahim, could not see her infant son Ismail whom she had left at the foot of the hill. In her anxiety, she ran through this section. Male الحجاج commemorate her action by jogging lightly between the two sets of green markers during each lap of السعي. Historically, these were marked by green pillars; today they are indicated by green fluorescent lighting strips on the walls and ceiling of the air-conditioned السعي gallery. Women are not required to jog and maintain their normal walking pace. The distance between the green markers is approximately 100 meters.
