Perfume in الإحرام(الطيب في الإحرام) The prohibition of using perfume, fragrance, cologne, or any scented substance while in the state of الإحرام. This is one of the key restrictions that apply to both male and female الحجاج during الحج and العمرة.
الطيب في الإحرام
The prohibition of perfume during الإحرام is based on the hadith of النبي Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) who instructed الحجاج not to apply perfume after entering الإحرام. This restriction covers all forms of fragrance including cologne, scented oils, perfumed soap, scented lotions, and incense. However, it is سنة to apply perfume to the body (not the الإحرام garments) before making the intention for الإحرام. If a الحاج accidentally uses perfume, they should wash it off immediately. Intentional use requires فدية — which involves fasting three days, feeding six poor people, or sacrificing a sheep, عند the Hanbali and other schools. Unscented hygiene products are permitted.
From Arabic الطيب (at-teeb, 'perfume/fragrance') and الإحرام (al-الإحرام, 'the sacred state'). The word teeb encompasses all pleasant scents in Arabic.
