The night spent in منى before the Day of عرفة (the night of the 8th/9th ذو الحجة) is a precious time for spiritual preparation. Recommended actions: pray tahajjud in the last third of the night, recite القرآن with contemplation, make istighfar and tawbah, prepare a دعاء list for عرفة, recite the التلبية, and get adequate rest. النبي (صلى الله عليه وسلم) waited until after Fajr الصلاة and sunrise to depart for عرفة.
After praying Isha (shortened to two ركعة) in منى, settle into your tent space. This is a calm night compared to the intense days ahead. Use this time to organize your belongings, charge your phone, and mentally prepare for the Day of عرفة.
Write down or review your دعاء list for the Day of عرفة. This is the day when دعاء is most accepted — النبي (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said: 'The best دعاء is on the Day of عرفة.' Include: الأدعية for yourself (forgiveness, guidance, health, provision), الأدعية for your family members by name, الأدعية for your community and the ummah, specific needs and aspirations, and gratitude.
Spend time reciting القرآن with contemplation (tadabbur). Recommended surahs include: Surah Ya-Sin, Surah al-Mulk, Surah al-Kahf, and the last three surahs for protection. Engage in various forms of dhikr: tasbih (SubhanAllah), tahmid (Alhamdulillah), takbir (Allahu Akbar), and istighfar (Astaghfirullah).
These are the most frequent errors pilgrims make during this stage of Hajj.

Set an alarm or ask someone to wake you for tahajjud in the last third of the night. Even two ركعة of sincere night الصلاة are immensely valuable. النبي (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said Allah descends to the lowest heaven in the last third of each night.
Pray Fajr at its earliest time. After Fajr, make dhikr and دعاء until sunrise. Pack your day bag for عرفة: water (at least 3 liters for the long hot day), snacks, الأدويةs, دعاء list, phone with offline content, umbrella, cooling towel, and واقي الشمس. النبي (صلى الله عليه وسلم) waited until after sunrise to depart from منى to عرفة.
Before departing for عرفة, make sincere tawbah (repentance) and renew your intention for الحج. This is the eve of the greatest day of the year — approach it with humility, hope, and genuine desire for Allah's forgiveness. Forgive anyone who has wronged you, release any grudges, and enter the Day of عرفة with a clean and open heart.
