السعي is walking seven times between the hills of الصفا and المروة (approximately 450 meters each way, totaling ~3.15 km). It commemorates Hajar's desperate search for water for her son Ismail. السعي is a ركن (pillar) of both الحج and العمرة. Begin at الصفا, end at المروة. Men should jog between the two green markers. Wudu is مستحب but not required.
After completing الطواف and its two ركعة, proceed to the hill of الصفا. Upon approaching الصفا, recite: 'Innas-الصفا wal-المروةta min sha'a'irillah' (Indeed, الصفا and المروة are among the symbols of Allah) — القرآن 2:158. Add: 'I begin with what Allah began with.' Climb الصفا and face the الكعبة.
Upon الصفا, face the الكعبة, raise your hands, and make دعاء. النبي (صلى الله عليه وسلم) would recite 'La ilaha illallahu wahdahu la sharika lah, lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu wa huwa ala kulli shay'in qadir' three times, with دعاء in between. This is a station where دعاء is accepted.
These are the most frequent errors pilgrims make during this stage of Hajj.

Descend from الصفا and walk toward المروة. The corridor is approximately 450 meters long. Walk at a normal pace, making دعاء and dhikr throughout. When you reach the area between the two green markers, men should jog briskly through this section. Women walk at their normal pace throughout.
Upon reaching المروة, face the direction of the الكعبة, raise your hands, and repeat the same دعاء and dhikr as at الصفا. This completes lap 1. The return trip from المروة to الصفا counts as lap 2.
Continue walking back and forth between الصفا and المروة until you complete seven laps. The count: الصفا to المروة (1), المروة to الصفا (2), الصفا to المروة (3), المروة to الصفا (4), الصفا to المروة (5), المروة to الصفا (6), الصفا to المروة (7). You begin at الصفا and end at المروة.
Upon completing the seventh lap at المروة, your السعي is complete. Make a final دعاء. For العمرة: proceed to have your hair shaved or trimmed. For الحج: after the الحج السعي (after الطواف al-Ifadah), this completes the الحج ritual requirements.
