The Standing at عرفة (Wuquf) on the 9th of ذو الحجة is THE central pillar of الحج. النبي (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said: 'الحج is عرفة.' A الحاج who misses عرفة has missed الحج entirely. The wuquf begins after Dhuhr and extends until Fajr of the 10th. Being present anywhere within the boundaries of عرفة fulfills the obligation. The afternoon is devoted to intense دعاء.
On the morning of the 9th of ذو الحجة, depart from منى after sunrise and travel to the plain of عرفة, approximately 14 km from منى. Continue reciting the التلبية. Upon arrival, locate your assigned tent.
When the sun passes its zenith (Dhuhr time), pray Dhuhr (2 ركعة) and Asr (2 ركعة) combined at the time of Dhuhr, with one adhan and two iqamah calls. This is agreed upon by all four schools, including the Hanafi school.
These are the most frequent errors pilgrims make during this stage of Hajj.

After praying, devote yourself entirely to دعاء and الدعاء until sunset. This is the supreme moment of الحج. النبي said: 'The best دعاء is on the Day of عرفة, and the best thing I and the prophets before me said is: La ilaha illa Allahu wahdahu la sharika lah, lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu wa huwa ala kulli shay'in qadir.' Use your prepared دعاء list, make دعاء in any language, and pour your heart out to Allah.
While دعاء is the primary worship, vary your activities to maintain focus: alternate between دعاء, القرآن recitation, dhikr, istighfar, salawat upon النبي, and silent contemplation. Drink water regularly. Take brief rest breaks if needed.
Stay at عرفة until after sunset. Do NOT leave before sunset — النبي remained at عرفة until the sun had fully set. Intensify your دعاء in the final hour before Maghrib, as this is considered the peak of acceptance.
After sunset, depart calmly for مزدلفة. Do NOT pray Maghrib at عرفة — the سنة is to delay Maghrib and combine it with Isha at مزدلفة. Walk or ride with dignity and tranquility. Continue reciting the التلبية.
