مسجد نمرة
Masjid Namirah is a large مسجد located at the western edge of the Plain of عرفة. It is where the الحج khutbah (sermon) is delivered on the 9th of ذو الحجة, and where Dhuhr and Asr الصلوات are combined and shortened. The مسجد can accommodate over 350,000 worshippers. Part of the مسجد is technically outside the boundaries of عرفة.
Masjid Namirah is built near the location where Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) delivered his Farewell Sermon during his only الحج in 10 AH. After the sermon, he led the combined and shortened Dhuhr and Asr الصلوات. The مسجد has been expanded multiple times, most significantly during the Saudi era, and now covers an area of approximately 110,000 square meters. It is one of the largest مسجدs used only once a year.
Masjid Namirah marks the site of النبي's Farewell Sermon, one of the most important speeches in human تاريخ, addressing human rights, equality, and Islamic principles. The combining of الصلوات here is a سنة that all الحجاج follow on the Day of Arafah.
Masjid Namirah is primarily used on the Day of Arafah (9th ذو الحجة). The مسجد's front section, where the minbar is located, falls in the valley of Uranah, which is technically outside عرفة boundaries. Pilgrims should ensure they stand (wuquf) within the boundaries of عرفة, not in the Uranah valley portion. The مسجد provides one of the few shaded areas on the plain. Arrive early to secure a spot inside. The الحج sermon is broadcast via loudspeakers across the entire plain.
