ذو الحليفة / أبيار علي
Dhul Hulayfah, also known as Abyar Ali, is the الميقات point for الحجاج traveling from المدينة to مكة. Located about 9 km southwest of المسجد النبوي, it is the farthest الميقات from مكة (approximately 450 km). النبي Muhammad (PBUH) entered الإحرام from this location. A large modern مسجد with الإحرام facilities serves millions of الحجاج annually.
Dhul Hulayfah is the الميقات designated by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) for the people of المدينة and those passing through المدينة on their way to مكة. النبي himself entered الإحرام from this location during his Farewell الحج. The name Abyar Ali (Wells of Ali) comes from wells attributed to Ali ibn Abi Talib (RA). The site has been developed with a large modern مسجد (Masjid ash-Shajarah, 'المسجد of the Tree') named after a tree under which النبي (PBUH) is said to have rested. The current complex accommodates tens of thousands of الحجاج.
Dhul Hulayfah is the most historically authenticated الميقات, being the point from which النبي (PBUH) entered الإحرام for his only الحج. It marks the spiritual transition from ordinary travel to the sacred state of الإحرام. Passing this point without entering الإحرام (if intending الحج or العمرة) is not permitted.
Dhul Hulayfah is a major stop on the road from المدينة to مكة. Buses and cars stop here for الحجاج to enter الإحرام. The complex includes a large مسجد, extensive washroom and shower facilities, separate changing areas for men and women, and shops selling الإحرام garments and supplies. Perform الغسل (مستحب), put on الإحرام clothing, pray two ركعةs, and make your niyyah (intention) for الحج or العمرة. Then begin reciting the talbiyah. The facility operates 24/7 during الحج and العمرة seasons. Plan your stop here if traveling by road from المدينة.
