مخيمات منى
The منى Tent City is one of the largest temporary cities in the world, housing over 2 million الحج الحجاج in more than 100,000 air-conditioned, fireproof tents. Located in the valley of منى, الحجاج stay here on the 8th, 10th, 11th, 12th (and optionally 13th) of ذو الحجة. The tents are organized by country and الحج group.
Pilgrims have camped in منى since the time of Prophet Ibrahim (AS). Historically, الحجاج used simple fabric tents or slept in the open. After a devastating fire in 1997 that destroyed over 70,000 tents and killed 343 الحجاج, the Saudi government replaced all tents with permanent fireproof structures made of fiberglass-coated fabric on steel frames. The modern tent city covers approximately 20 square kilometers and is equipped with utilities, kitchens, and sanitation facilities.
Staying in منى is a سنة of الحج, following the practice of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The 8th of ذو الحجة (Yawm at-Tarwiyah) and the Days of التشريق (11th-13th) are spent here. منى represents the communal nature of الحج, where millions live together in simplicity and equality.
Your الحج operator will assign you a specific tent location — memorize your camp number and street. Tents are organized by nationality and الحج group. Facilities include communal bathrooms, kitchens, and small shops. Bring minimal luggage as space is shared and limited. Keep your الحج ID visible at all times. Walking to the الجمرات Bridge from your tent can take 30 minutes to over an hour during peak times. Charge your phone whenever possible as outlets may be limited.
