This is based on the hadith of Aisha about Asma bint Umays who gave birth at Dhul Hulayfah during the Farewell الحج: 'النبي (صلى الله عليه وسلم) commanded her to perform الغسل, enter الإحرام, and do all the rites except الطواف around the House until she was pure' (صحيح مسلم 1209). الشيخ ابن باز stated: 'The ruling on nifas is the same as menstruation with regard to الحج: she does everything except الطواف and الصلاة in the مسجد' (Fatawa ابن باز, vol. 16).
