The time for the الحج sacrifice (هدي) begins after the Eid الصلاة on the 10th of ذو الحجة and extends through sunset on the 13th of ذو الحجة (the last day of التشريق). This is the view of the majority of scholars. النبي (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said: 'All the days of التشريق are days of slaughter' (narrated by Ahmad, graded sahih by الألباني in Irwa' al-Ghalil 1141). الشيخ ابن باز stated: 'The time for sacrifice is four days: the day of Eid and the three days of التشريق' (Fatawa ابن باز, vol. 16). Slaughtering at night is جائز عند the strongest opinion, though daytime is preferred. The اللجنة الدائمة ruled that the sacrifice must be done within these days and cannot be delayed beyond them without a valid excuse.
