Arab Saudi's approach to gender segregation has evolved significantly under Vision 2030 reforms. Inside both Harams, designated shalat areas for women are clearly marked on upper floors and specific ground-level sections. The tawaf area around the Kabah is shared space where men and women perform tawaf together.
In public spaces, strict segregation has largely been relaxed. Shopping malls, markets, and public transport are mixed-gender. Hotels operate without segregation. However, physical contact between unrelated men and women remains socially unacceptable.
During Haji rituals, men and women perform all rites in the same spaces. Family groups stay together throughout. Arab Saudi now allows women over 45 to travel in organized groups without a mahram.
