Jeddah is closer to Mekkah and is the standard arrival; Madinah is ideal if visiting Nabi's Masjid first — your operator's itinerary typically determines the arrival city.
The choice between Jeddah and Madinah airports often depends on your Haji operator's itinerary and flight availability. Jeddah's King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA) is the primary gateway for most Haji jamaah haji, located about 80 km from Mekkah (1-1.5 hours by road). It has a dedicated Haji terminal designed to process large numbers of jamaah haji efficiently. Flying into Jeddah allows you to reach Mekkah quickly and begin your Umrah (for Haji Tamattu) or pre-Haji worship with minimal travel time.
Flying into Madinah's Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz International Airport makes sense if your itinerary places the Madinah visit before Haji rather than after. This is a popular arrangement: spend 3-5 days in Madinah visiting Masjid al-Nabawi and historical sites in a relaxed atmosphere, then travel to Mekkah via the Haramain train for Umrah and Haji. The return journey after Haji would then be from Jeddah. Some jamaah haji prefer this order because post-Haji exhaustion can diminish the Madinah experience. Discuss the itinerary options with your Haji operator to determine which arrangement best suits your group.
