sa'i Direction(اتجاه السعي) The prescribed direction for performing sa'i, which must begin from the hill of Safa toward Marwah and end the seventh lap at Marwah. This sequence follows Nabiic Sunnah and Al-Quranic order.
اتجاه السعي
The direction of sa'i is established by Al-Al-Quran and Sunnah. Allah mentions in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:158): 'Indeed, Safa and Marwah are among the symbols of Allah.' Nabi Muhammad (shallallahu alaihi wa sallam) began his sa'i at Safa, saying 'I begin with what Allah began with.' The majority of scholars (Maliki, Shafi'i, Hanbali) consider starting from Safa a condition (shart) for the validity of sa'i — meaning if someone starts from Marwah, that first walk does not count. The Hanafi school considers it wajib (wajib) but not a condition of validity, meaning starting from Marwah would be sinful but the sa'i could still be valid with an additional lap. Practically, the multi-level Mas'a has clear signage indicating direction.
