Prices in the immediate Haram area are generally higher than in outlying districts, so jamaah haji seeking better value should explore shops along Ibrahim Al-Khalil Street further from the masjid.

Prayer mats (sajjadah) ranging from simple fabric mats to elaborate embroidered pieces are available in every price range. Mekkah Mall, located on the Third Ring Road, is one of the city's largest shopping centers with international fashion brands, electronics stores, a hypermarket, and a food court. Jabal Omar complex, adjacent to the Haram area, features a luxury shopping area with high-end brands and boutique stores. Al Diyafa Mall and Al Safwa Towers offer additional shopping options in the central area. These malls provide a contrast to the traditional market experience, with fixed prices, returns policies, and air-conditioned environments. They are particularly useful for purchasing practical items like luggage (to carry all your purchases home), electronics chargers, toiletries, and clothing. During Haji season and Ramadhan, malls adjust their hours to accommodate jamaah haji schedules, often remaining open late into the night.

Bargaining is a normal part of shopping in Mekkah's traditional markets and small shops, though it is not practiced in malls and chain stores. Start by browsing several shops to understand the general price range for items you want before committing to a purchase. When bargaining, begin by offering about 50 to 60 percent of the asking price and work toward a middle ground. Always be polite and willing to walk away — shopkeepers will often call you back with a better price. Be cautious of extremely low prices, which may indicate counterfeit or low-quality goods, particularly for electronics, perfumes, and branded items. Shops near the Haram gates charge the highest premiums, so walking even five minutes further can yield significantly better prices. When purchasing gold jewelry, ensure it is stamped with the karat rating and request a receipt. For large purchases, credit cards are often accepted, but cash will sometimes secure a better price.
