Kur'an recitation is excellent during Hac, especially at Arafat and during nights in Mina; during tavaf, scholars differ but dua and dhikr are generally prioritized.
Kur'an recitation is one of the greatest acts of worship and is particularly meritorious during the blessed days of Hac. Hz. Peygamber (sallallahu aleyhi ve sellem) said: 'There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah' (Bukhari), and Kur'an recitation is among the most virtuous deeds.
During tavaf, scholars have differed: the Shafi'i and Hanbali scholars generally prefer that the haci focus on dua and specific tavaf adhkar rather than Kur'an recitation during tavaf itself, while the Hanafi and Maliki schools permit it and consider it praiseworthy. If you choose to recite Kur'an during tavaf, it is permissible to read from a mushaf or phone app. The best times for extended Kur'an recitation during Hac are: the night spent in Mina before Arafat (a calm night ideal for reflection), the time at Arafat (between duas), the nights of Tashreeq in Mina, and any quiet moments in your hotel. Focus on quality over quantity — recite slowly, contemplate the meanings, and let the words move your heart.
