Plan for off-peak ritual times, use carriers, pack essentials, take turns with your partner, and accept that flexibility is necessary — the child's Hac is valid with you performing rituals on their behalf.
Performing Hac with a toddler (ages 1-4) is a test of patience that also earns significant reward. The key is realistic expectations and thorough preparation. Your toddler's Hac is religiously valid — the parent performs the rituals on their behalf (you carry them during tavaf, walk with them during sa'i, and throw pebbles on their behalf at the Cemerat).
Practical strategies: perform tavaf and sa'i during the quietest hours (typically 2-5 AM or mid-morning on non-peak days) when crowds are manageable. Bring a comfortable carrier for when the toddler tires of walking, and a compact stroller for the less crowded stretches. Pack a bag with snacks, water, a favorite small toy, wet wipes, diapers, and a change of clothes. Take turns with your spouse or travel companion so each adult can focus on their own worship at times. Keep the child covered from the sun and ensure constant hydration — children are more vulnerable to heat-related illness. Be prepared to take breaks and do not push through if the child is distressed. Many experienced parents recommend completing your own rituals first (having someone watch the child) and then performing the child's rituals separately if possible.
