ذو الحليفة / أبيار علي
Dhul Hulayfah, also known as Abyar Ali, is the miqat point for hacilar traveling from Medine to Mekke. Located about 9 km southwest of Mescid-i Nebevi, it is the farthest miqat from Mekke (approximately 450 km). Hz. Peygamber Muhammad (PBUH) entered ihram from this location. A large modern cami with ihram facilities serves millions of hacilar annually.
Dhul Hulayfah is the miqat designated by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) for the people of Medine and those passing through Medine on their way to Mekke. Hz. Peygamber himself entered ihram from this location during his Farewell Hac. The name Abyar Ali (Wells of Ali) comes from wells attributed to Ali ibn Abi Talib (RA). The site has been developed with a large modern cami (Masjid ash-Shajarah, 'Mosque of the Tree') named after a tree under which Hz. Peygamber (PBUH) is said to have rested. The current complex accommodates tens of thousands of hacilar.
Dhul Hulayfah is the most historically authenticated miqat, being the point from which Hz. Peygamber (PBUH) entered ihram for his only Hac. It marks the spiritual transition from ordinary travel to the sacred state of ihram. Passing this point without entering ihram (if intending Hac or Umre) is not permitted.
Dhul Hulayfah is a major stop on the road from Medine to Mekke. Buses and cars stop here for hacilar to enter ihram. The complex includes a large cami, extensive washroom and shower facilities, separate changing areas for men and women, and shops selling ihram garments and supplies. Perform gusul (sunnet), put on ihram clothing, pray two rak'ahs, and make your niyyah (intention) for Hac or Umre. Then begin reciting the talbiyah. The facility operates 24/7 during Hac and Umre seasons. Plan your stop here if traveling by road from Medine.
