مسجد الجمعة
Masjid al-Jummah marks the location where Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) performed the first Jummah (Friday) namaz during his migration from Mekke to Medine. Located in the Ranuna valley between Quba and central Medine, Hz. Peygamber stopped here when Friday namaz time arrived during his journey from Quba to Medine, leading about 100 Muslims in namaz.
After spending several days at Quba upon his arrival from Mekke, Hz. Peygamber (PBUH) set out toward central Medine on a Friday. When the time for namaz arrived, he was in the Ranuna valley in the area of Banu Salim ibn Awf. He stopped and led the first Friday namaz in Islamic history, delivering a khutbah to about 100 companions. This established the institution of Jummah namaz as a weekly congregational obligation. The cami built at this location commemorates that historic namaz.
Masjid al-Jummah commemorates the establishment of Friday congregational namaz, one of the most important weekly institutions in Islam. The first Jummah namaz and khutbah represent the beginning of organized Muslim community life in Medine, a foundational moment in Islamic history.
Masjid al-Jummah is located along the road between Masjid Quba and Mescid-i Nebevi, making it easy to include in a Quba visit. The cami is relatively small but well-maintained. There are no specific rituals associated with visiting. It is a regular functioning cami where daily namazs are held. The historical significance makes it a worthwhile stop for those interested in seerah (prophetic biography). Some organized ziyarah tours include this cami in their itinerary.
