What is the ruling on arriving at Arafat after sunset?

The time of standing at Arafat extends from noon on the 9th until dawn of the 10th of Dhul Hijjah. If a haci arrives at Arafat after sunset but before dawn of the 10th, his Hac is valid. Hz. Peygamber (sallallahu aleyhi ve sellem) said: 'Hac is Arafat. Whoever reaches Arafat on the night of Jam (Muzdelife) before dawn, has caught Hac' (Sunan al-Tirmidhi 889, graded sahih by al-Albani). However, standing at Arafat only during the night — without being present during any daytime hours — requires a fidyah according to the majority.
