Is it permissible to get married or propose marriage while in the state of ihram?

It is not permissible for a person in the state of ihram to marry, give someone in marriage, or propose marriage. Hz. Peygamber (sallallahu aleyhi ve sellem) said: 'The muhrim (one in ihram) shall not marry, nor give in marriage, nor propose marriage' (Sahih Muslim 1409). This prohibition is agreed upon by the four schools of fiqh. Sheikh Ibn Baz stated: 'Marriage during ihram is invalid alimlerin cogunluguna gore, and the contract must be repeated after leaving the state of ihram' (Fatawa Ibn Baz, vol. 16). If a marriage contract is performed during ihram, the majority hold that it is invalid and must be redone. Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen stated: 'Any marriage contract concluded while one or both parties are in ihram is void and must be renewed after tahallul.'
