The evidence is the hadith of Ibn Umar: 'Hz. Peygamber (sallallahu aleyhi ve sellem) performed raml from the Hacer-ul Esved to the Hacer-ul Esved in three circuits and walked in four' (Sahih al-Bukhari 1603, Sahih Muslim 1261). Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen stated: 'Raml is sunnah in the first three circuits of Tavaf al-Qudum only. It is not prescribed in Tavaf al-Ifadah or Tavaf al-Wida.' Sheikh Ibn Baz stated: 'If unable to perform raml due to crowding, the haci is excused and should walk normally' (Fatawa Ibn Baz, vol. 16). Additionally, idtiba' (exposing the right shoulder) is done throughout all seven circuits of the same tavaf where raml is prescribed.
