The National حج Commission coordinates registration through licensed حج companies. Pilgrims apply through authorized operators. Requirements include valid Somali passport, vaccination certificates (meningitis ACWY, yellow fever, polio), medical examination, and passport-size photos.
حج companies must be licensed by the National حج Commission. The commission publishes a list of authorized operators. Pilgrims in the diaspora may also arrange حج through operators in their country of residence.
Somalia follows the Shafi'i school of jurisprudence. The Somali diaspora is large, and many Somali حجاج travel from their countries of residence rather than from Somalia. Yellow fever vaccination is mandatory. Pilgrims should carry adequate USD cash as Somali shillings are not widely accepted abroad.
