Purify your intention for Allah's sake, make sincere repentance, seek forgiveness from those you have wronged, settle debts, write a will, and increase voluntary worship and دعا memorization.
The most essential spiritual preparation is purifying your intention (niyyah). حج must be performed solely for the sake of Allah — not for social prestige, the title of 'Hajji,' or any worldly purpose. Reflect deeply on why you are going and renew your intention regularly. نبی کریم (صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم) said: 'Actions are judged by intentions, and every person will get what they intended.'
Make sincere repentance (tawbah) before departure. This means recognizing your sins, feeling genuine remorse, resolving not to return to them, and seeking forgiveness from Allah. Equally important is seeking forgiveness from any person you have wronged — return anything owed, mend broken relationships, and settle disputes. Settle all financial debts and write a will, as the journey carries inherent risks.
In the months before حج, increase your voluntary worship: pray extra نمازs (nawafil), fast voluntary days, give charity, read قرآن مجید regularly, and make abundant dhikr (remembrance of Allah). Memorize the key دعائیں for each stage of حج — the talbiyah, طواف دعائیں, عرفات دعائیں, and general حج نمازs. Study the spiritual significance behind each ritual to deepen your experience. Approach حج as a journey of transformation, not just a checklist of rituals to complete.
