قرآن recitation is excellent during حج, especially at عرفات and during nights in منیٰ; during طواف, scholars differ but دعا and dhikr are generally prioritized.
قرآن recitation is one of the greatest acts of worship and is particularly meritorious during the blessed days of حج. نبی کریم (صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم) said: 'There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah' (Bukhari), and قرآن recitation is among the most virtuous deeds.
During طواف, scholars have differed: the Shafi'i and Hanbali scholars generally prefer that the حاجی focus on دعا and specific طواف adhkar rather than قرآن recitation during طواف itself, while the Hanafi and Maliki schools permit it and consider it praiseworthy. If you choose to recite قرآن during طواف, it is permissible to read from a mushaf or phone app. The best times for extended قرآن recitation during حج are: the night spent in منیٰ before عرفات (a calm night ideal for reflection), the time at عرفات (between دعائیں), the nights of Tashreeq in منیٰ, and any quiet moments in your hotel. Focus on quality over quantity — recite slowly, contemplate the meanings, and let the words move your heart.
