Smoking is banned inside both holy مسجدs and camps, with fines up to SAR 200. Most scholars rule smoking as haram, especially during احرام.
Smoking is completely prohibited inside and around both مسجد الحرام and Masjid al-Nabawi, including courtyards and surrounding pedestrian areas. It is also banned in منیٰ tents, عرفات encampments, مزدلفہ, and the جمرات area. Fines can reach SAR 200.
From a religious perspective, the majority of contemporary scholars rule smoking as haram due to its clear harm to health. During احرام, smoking is strongly discouraged even by those who permit it otherwise.
Many scholars encourage using حج as motivation to quit permanently. Consider nicotine patches or gum (permitted during احرام) to manage cravings. Pharmacies in مکہ مکرمہ and مدینہ منورہ stock cessation aids.
