Dhikr(ذِكْر) Dhikr is the Islamic practice of remembering Allah through the repetition of His names, glorification phrases, and دعائیں. It is a central act of worship encouraged throughout حج and daily life.

Dhikr encompasses a wide range of devotional expressions: Tasbih (SubhanAllah — Glory be to Allah), Tahmid (Alhamdulillah — Praise be to Allah), Takbir (Allahu Akbar — Allah is the Greatest), Tahlil (La ilaha illAllah — There is no god but Allah), Istighfar (seeking forgiveness), and Salawat (sending blessings upon نبی کریم). During حج, Dhikr pervades every aspect of the حج. The تلبیہ itself is a form of Dhikr. The قرآن specifically commands Dhikr during the Days of Tashreeq: 'Remember Allah during the appointed days' (2:203), and scholars hold that the Takbirat al-Tashreeq — reciting 'Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, La ilaha illAllah, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, wa lillahil-hamd' after every واجب نماز from Fajr of the 9th to Asr of the 13th of Dhul Hijjah — is Wajib (Hanafi) or Sunnah Mu'akkadah (other schools). During طواف, سعی, at عرفات, and throughout the حج journey, حجاج are encouraged to fill their time with Dhikr. نبی کریم said: 'The best of speech is four phrases: SubhanAllah, Alhamdulillah, La ilaha illAllah, and Allahu Akbar.'
