Raml(رَمَل) Raml is the Sunnah act of walking briskly with short, hurried steps during the first three circuits of طواف. It is practiced by male حجاج during طواف al-Qudum and طواف of عمرہ.
رَمَل
Raml involves walking at a pace faster than normal with short, quick steps, puffing out the chest and moving the shoulders — similar to a light jog. It is performed only during the first three of the seven طواف circuits, while the remaining four circuits are walked at a normal pace. Raml is a Sunnah specifically for men; women walk at their normal pace throughout. The practice originated during the عمرہ of 7 AH (the Year of Qada), when نبی کریم Muhammad (صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم) instructed his companions to perform Raml to show the watching Quraysh of مکہ مکرمہ that the Muslims were strong and not weakened by the fever of مدینہ منورہ. Although the original reason no longer exists, نبی کریم continued the practice during his Farewell Pilgrimage, establishing it as a permanent Sunnah. Raml is typically paired with Idtiba (exposing the right shoulder).
