| Arabic | إتمام السعي |
|---|---|
| Pronunciation | it-MAAM as-SA'-ee |
| Etymology | From Arabic إتمام (itmam, 'completion/finishing') and السعي (as-sa'i, 'the striving'). The root ت-م-م indicates bringing something to completion. |
سعی Completion(إتمام السعي) The proper conclusion of the سعی ritual, which occurs when the seventh lap ends at Marwah. After سعی, the حاجی proceeds to halq (shaving) or taqsir (trimming) to complete the rites.
إتمام السعي
Completing سعی correctly requires finishing all seven laps with the final lap ending at Marwah. If a حاجی is unsure about the count, they should assume the lower number and complete additional laps to reach seven. Upon reaching Marwah for the seventh time, the حاجی may make دعا but there is no specific prescribed دعا. For عمرہ, the next step after سعی completion is halq or taqsir (shaving or trimming the hair), which marks the exit from احرام. For حج Tamattu, the سعی may be performed after طواف al-Ifadah. Scholars differ on whether وضو (ablution) is required for سعی — the majority view is that it is مستحب (mustahabb) but not required, unlike طواف. سعی can be paused for salah or rest and then resumed from where the حاجی stopped.
