سعی Direction(اتجاه السعي) The prescribed direction for performing سعی, which must begin from the hill of Safa toward Marwah and end the seventh lap at Marwah. This sequence follows نبی کریمic Sunnah and قرآنic order.
اتجاه السعي
The direction of سعی is established by قرآن مجید and Sunnah. Allah mentions in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:158): 'Indeed, Safa and Marwah are among the symbols of Allah.' نبی کریم Muhammad (صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم) began his سعی at Safa, saying 'I begin with what Allah began with.' The majority of scholars (Maliki, Shafi'i, Hanbali) consider starting from Safa a condition (shart) for the validity of سعی — meaning if someone starts from Marwah, that first walk does not count. The Hanafi school considers it wajib (واجب) but not a condition of validity, meaning starting from Marwah would be sinful but the سعی could still be valid with an additional lap. Practically, the multi-level Mas'a has clear signage indicating direction.
From Arabic اتجاه (ittijah, 'direction') and السعي (as-sa'i, 'the striving/walking'). The directional requirement derives from قرآن مجیدic sequence and Prophetic practice.
