Hunting land animals is one of the prohibitions of احرام by consensus of the scholars. Allah says: 'O you who believe, do not kill game while you are in احرام' (Al-Ma'idah 5:95). The verse also prescribes the penalty: an equivalent of what was killed from livestock, judged by two just persons, as an offering to the کعبۃ اللہ; or the expiation of feeding the poor; or its equivalent in fasting. Sheikh Ibn Baz stated: 'The muhrim is absolutely حرام from hunting land game. Sea game (fishing) is permissible' (Fatawa Ibn Baz, vol. 16). The prohibition includes killing, assisting in killing, or pointing out game to a hunter. However, killing harmful creatures such as scorpions, snakes, and rabid dogs is permissible during احرام, based on the hadith of Aisha (Sahih al-Bukhari 1829, Sahih Muslim 1198).
