السعي by Proxy(السعي بالنيابة) The performance of السعي on behalf of another person who is unable to perform it themselves due to permanent physical incapacity, severe illness, or death. This is part of the broader framework of الحج al-Badal (proxy الحج).
السعي بالنيابة
Islamic jurisprudence permits الحج by proxy (الحج al-Badal) for individuals who are permanently unable to perform الحج — due to old age, terminal illness, or death — and السعي is included as part of that complete proxy الحج. The proxy performs all rituals including السعي with the intention (niyyah) for the person they represent. However, performing السعي alone by proxy (separate from a complete الحج or العمرة) is not a standard practice in any of the four schools. A person who is temporarily ill during الحج but capable of السعي at a later time should delay and perform it themselves when able. Those who cannot walk but are present may perform السعي in a wheelchair or be carried, which is preferred over proxy.
