Yawm عرفة(يَوْم عَرَفَة) Yawm عرفة is the 9th of ذو الحجة, the pinnacle of الحج. Pilgrims perform Wuquf (standing) at the plain of عرفة from noon to sunset, engaging in intense الدعاء, repentance, and devotion.
يَوْم عَرَفَة
Yawm عرفة is considered the greatest day in the Islamic calendar. النبي Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) declared, 'الحج is عرفة' (Al-Hakim), meaning that presence at عرفة is the essential pillar without which الحج is invalid. After Fajr in منى, الحجاج proceed to the vast plain of عرفة, approximately 20 kilometers east of مكة. At noon, the imam delivers a sermon (khutbah) at Masjid Namirah, and الحجاج combine and shorten Dhuhr and Asr الصلوات. From then until sunset, الحجاج engage in Wuquf — standing in earnest الدعاء, seeking forgiveness, and making دعاء. النبي said no day sees more souls freed from Hellfire than the Day of عرفة. For non-الحجاج, fasting on this day expiates the sins of the previous and coming year. After sunset, الحجاج depart for مزدلفة without praying Maghrib at عرفة, combining it with Isha at مزدلفة.
