Pack oral rehydration salts, pain relievers, blister plasters, antiseptic supplies, unscented sunscreen, anti-diarrhea medication, face masks, hand sanitizer, and all prescription medications with copies of prescriptions.
A well-prepared first aid kit is essential for হজ্জ, where you will face extreme heat, extensive walking, and crowded conditions with limited immediate access to pharmacies. Your kit should include core medications: paracetamol (acetaminophen) and ibuprofen for pain and fever, oral rehydration salts (at least 10 sachets — these are critical for dehydration), anti-diarrhea medication (loperamide), antacids, antihistamines for allergies, throat lozenges, and cough suppressants. If you take prescription medications, bring at least double your expected supply in original packaging with a copy of the prescription.
For wound care and skin protection, pack adhesive bandages in multiple sizes, blister plasters (Compeed or similar hydrocolloid type — blisters are almost inevitable), sterile gauze pads, medical tape, antiseptic wipes, antibiotic cream, petroleum jelly or anti-chafing balm for thigh and underarm friction, unscented sunscreen SPF 50+ (scented products are not permitted during ইহরাম), and lip balm with SPF. A small pair of scissors and tweezers is also useful.
Additional essentials include a digital thermometer, surgical face masks (N95 if possible — respiratory infections spread easily in crowds), alcohol-based hand sanitizer, electrolyte tablets or powder, eye drops for dust irritation, nasal saline spray, insect repellent, and a small cold pack that can be activated without refrigeration. Keep everything in a compact, waterproof pouch that fits easily in your day bag. Label all medications clearly in English and Arabic, and carry a medical card listing your blood type, allergies, chronic conditions, and জরুরি contacts.
