Dam(دَم) Dam literally means 'blood' and in the context of হজ্জ and উমরাহ refers to the ওয়াজিব animal sacrifice required as a penalty for violating ইহরাম restrictions or omitting a mandatory rite of হজ্জ.
دَم
Dam is a specific type of Fidyah that requires the হাজী to slaughter an animal, typically a sheep or goat, within the boundaries of the Haram. It becomes ওয়াজিব in several situations: when a হাজী performing হজ্জ Tamattu or হজ্জ Qiran must offer a thanksgiving sacrifice, when a Wajib act of হজ্জ is omitted (such as missing the overnight stay at মুযদালিফা), or when certain ইহরাম violations are committed. The animal must meet specific criteria regarding age and health. If a হাজী cannot afford the Dam, they must instead fast for ten days — three during হজ্জ and seven after returning home. The meat from the Dam sacrifice must be distributed among the poor and needy.
