হজ্জ Tamattu is the most মুস্তাহাব type: perform a complete উমরাহ first upon arrival, exit ইহরাম, enjoy normal life, then enter ইহরাম again for হজ্জ on the 8th of Dhul Hijjah. The sequence: arrive at miqat, ইহরাম for উমরাহ, তাওয়াফ + sa'i + halq, exit ইহরাম, free period, ইহরাম for হজ্জ on 8th, then all হজ্জ rituals. A sacrifice (hady) is required.
At or before the miqat, enter ইহরাম with the intention for উমরাহ: 'Labbayk Allahumma Umratan.' This is the key distinction of Tamattu — you enter for উমরাহ first, NOT হজ্জ. Begin the তালবিয়াহ and proceed to মক্কা মুকাররমা.
Perform a complete উমরাহ: stop তালবিয়াহ upon reaching the Haram, perform তাওয়াফ (7 circuits with idtiba and raml for men), pray 2 rak'at, drink Zamzam, perform সাঈ (7 laps), then halq or taqsir. After hair cutting, you exit ইহরাম completely.
These are the most frequent errors pilgrims make during this stage of Hajj.
Scholarly references supporting this guidance from established Islamic sources.
Between উমরাহ and the 8th of Dhul Hijjah, you are free from ইহরাম. Wear normal clothing, use perfume, live normally. Use this time for worship at the Haram, voluntary তাওয়াফ, কুরআন, and dua.
On the morning of the 8th of Dhul Hijjah, perform গোসল and enter ইহরাম from your accommodation with the intention for হজ্জ: 'Labbayk Allahumma Hajjan.' Begin the তালবিয়াহ. Then proceed to মিনা.
Follow the standard হজ্জ sequence: মিনা (8th), আরাফাত (9th), মুযদালিফা, stoning + sacrifice + shaving on 10th, তাওয়াফ al-Ifadah + সাঈ (separate from উমরাহ সাঈ), and stoning on 11th-13th. Because you are performing Tamattu, you MUST offer a sacrifice (hady).
Before leaving মক্কা মুকাররমা, perform তাওয়াফ al-Wida as the final act of your হজ্জ. Your combined হজ্জ Tamattu journey is complete — you have performed a full উমরাহ and a full হজ্জ.
