The Cave of Hira (Ghar Hira) is a small cave near the summit of Jabal Nur, about 3.2 km from মসজিদুল হারাম. It is where Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to retreat for contemplation and where Angel Jibreel (AS) first appeared to him with the command 'Iqra' (Read), revealing the first verses of Surah Al-Alaq.
Before prophethood, Muhammad (PBUH) would retreat to this cave for periods of contemplation (tahannuth). In 610 CE, during the month of Ramadan, Angel Jibreel appeared and commanded him to read, revealing the first five verses of Surah Al-Alaq. This event marked the beginning of কুরআনic revelation that would continue for 23 years. The cave is small, approximately 3.7 meters long and 1.6 meters wide, facing the direction of the কাবা শরীফ.

The Cave of Hira sits near the summit of Jabal Nur at about 634 meters elevation. The climb takes 1-2 hours depending on fitness level. The path is steep and uneven, with some areas requiring scrambling over rocks. Only one or two people can fit inside the cave at a time. This is not a required part of হজ্জ or উমরাহ. Visit early morning to avoid heat. Bring water and wear sturdy shoes. The cave faces the কাবা শরীফ, offering a meaningful view.
