## A Common Concern, A Clear Solution
Menstruation during Haji is one of the most common concerns among female jamaah haji, yet Islamic scholarship provides clear guidance. The key principle is reassuring: menstruation does not invalidate your Haji, and you are not spiritually disadvantaged for experiencing a natural biological process.
## What You Can and Cannot Do
During menstruation, you may perform all Haji rituals except tawaf and formal salah. This means you can and should continue with standing at Arafah, staying at Muzdalifah, staying at Mina, stoning the Jamarat, making doa at any location, dhikr and recitation, and the sa'i if performed independently of tawaf.
## Medical Options for Delaying Menstruation
Many women consult their doctors about medically delaying menstruation during the ibadah haji. This is boleh menurut jumhur ulama. Options include continuous oral contraceptive pills started 2-3 months before travel or norethisterone tablets started 3 days before expected period. Both require medical consultation well in advance.
## If Menstruation Occurs During Haji
Continue with all non-tawaf rituals as scheduled. For Tawaf al-Ifadhah, you have flexibility in timing — it can be delayed. If your departure is immovable, the majority of Hanafi scholars permit tawaf in menstruation in cases of necessity, though a sacrifice may be required. The Farewell Tawaf is completely waived.
## Emotional and Spiritual Support
Remember the hadith where Aisha began menstruating during Haji and Nabi comforted her. Your patience during this test is itself an act of worship. Continue making doa — menstruation does not prevent doa.
## Packing and Preparation
Pack supplies for the entire trip plus extra: pads, tampons, or menstrual cup, extra underwear, wet wipes, pain medication, plastic bags for disposal, and dark-colored lower garments.
## Consulting Your Scholar
Consult a knowledgeable female scholar before traveling about Al-Quran recitation during menstruation in your madhab and what to do if menstruation coincides with Tawaf al-Ifadhah.
