Obligatory (Hanafi) or sunnah mu'akkadah (other schools) for adult Muslims who possess the nisab amount.
## Selecting the Animal
Sheep/goats: at least one year old. Cattle: two years. Camels: five years. Must be healthy and free from defects. Sheep/goat counts for one household; cattle/camels shared among seven.
## The Sacrifice Process
Performed after Eid نماز on 10th-12th of Dhul Hijjah. Face animal toward qibla, say Bismillahi Allahu Akbar, and slaughter with a sharp knife. The animal should not see the knife.
## Meat Distribution
Divide into three equal portions: household, relatives and friends, and the poor. You may eat from the qurbani meat.
## Modern Alternatives
Arrange through authorized butchers, مسجدs, or international charities that perform sacrifice on your behalf in countries with greatest need.
## Common Questions
You can perform qurbani for deceased relatives. Additional qurbanis are permissible. Stop cutting hair and nails from 1st of Dhul Hijjah until sacrifice.
## Teaching Children
