سعی by Proxy(السعي بالنيابة) The performance of سعی on behalf of another person who is unable to perform it themselves due to permanent physical incapacity, severe illness, or death. This is part of the broader framework of حج al-Badal (proxy حج).
السعي بالنيابة
Islamic jurisprudence permits حج by proxy (حج al-Badal) for individuals who are permanently unable to perform حج — due to old age, terminal illness, or death — and سعی is included as part of that complete proxy حج. The proxy performs all rituals including سعی with the intention (niyyah) for the person they represent. However, performing سعی alone by proxy (separate from a complete حج or عمرہ) is not a standard practice in any of the four schools. A person who is temporarily ill during حج but capable of سعی at a later time should delay and perform it themselves when able. Those who cannot walk but are present may perform سعی in a wheelchair or be carried, which is preferred over proxy.
