| Etymology | Ifrad (إفراد) from the root ف-ر-د (f-r-d) means 'to single out,' 'to isolate,' or 'to do alone.' حج Ifrad literally means 'the singled-out حج' or 'the isolated حج,' signifying that حج is performed independently without the addition of عمرہ. |
حج Ifrad(حَجّ الإِفْرَاد) حج Ifrad (single/isolated حج) is a type of حج where the حاجی performs حج alone without combining it with عمرہ. No واجب sacrifice is required, though voluntary sacrifice is مستحب.
حَجّ الإِفْرَاد
In حج Ifrad, the حاجی enters احرام at the Miqat with the intention of حج only, saying 'Labbayk Allahumma Hajjan' (Here I am, O Allah, for حج). They remain in احرام and proceed to perform all the حج rites: طواف al-Qudum (upon arrival, Sunnah), standing at عرفات, staying at مزدلفہ, stoning the جمرات, Halq/Taqsir, طواف al-Ifadah, سعی, and طواف al-Wida. Since the حاجی is performing حج in isolation without combining عمرہ, no Hady (thanksgiving sacrifice) is required, though offering a voluntary sacrifice is مستحب. The Shafi'i and Hanbali schools consider Ifrad to be the simplest type of حج. It is commonly performed by residents of مکہ مکرمہ and those living within the Miqat boundaries, as they can perform عمرہ separately at any time throughout the year. Some scholars, particularly from the Hanafi and Maliki schools, consider Ifrad to be the most virtuous type because the حاجی dedicates separate journeys to حج and عمرہ. However, other scholars favor Tamattu based on نبی کریم's recommendation to his companions.
