سُنَّة
The Sunnah has two main usages in Islamic discourse. In the broadest sense, it refers to the entire corpus of نبی کریم Muhammad's sayings (hadith), actions, and tacit approvals, forming the second source of Islamic law after قرآن مجید. In the jurisprudential sense, Sunnah (also called Mandub or Mustahabb) refers to مستحب acts that نبی کریم practiced or encouraged. In حج, Sunnah acts include: performing طواف al-Qudum (arrival طواف), practicing Raml (brisk walking in the first three circuits), performing Idtiba (exposing the right shoulder during طواف), spending the 8th of Dhul Hijjah in منیٰ, making دعا between the Rukn Yamani and the حجر اسود, drinking زمزم water, and other devotional acts نبی کریم performed. Sunnah acts are divided into Sunnah Mu'akkadah (emphasized, regularly practiced by نبی کریم) and Sunnah Ghair Mu'akkadah (non-emphasized, occasionally practiced). While omitting Sunnah acts does not require any penalty, scholars strongly encourage following them to earn the greatest reward and to emulate نبی کریم's example.
