| Etymology | Tarwiyah (تروية) derives from the root ر-و-ي (r-w-y), meaning 'to quench thirst' or 'to water.' Yawm al-Tarwiyah(يَوْم التَّرْوِيَة) Yawm al-Tarwiyah is the 8th of Dhul Hijjah, marking the beginning of the main حج rites. Pilgrims enter احرام for حج and travel to منیٰ where they spend the night in preparation for the Day of عرفات.
يَوْم التَّرْوِيَة
On Yawm al-Tarwiyah, حجاج performing حج Tamattu who had exited احرام after their عمرہ now re-enter احرام for حج from their accommodations in مکہ مکرمہ. Those performing حج Ifrad or Qiran are already in احرام. After praying Fajr, حجاج depart for منیٰ, the tent city located approximately 5 kilometers east of مکہ مکرمہ. In منیٰ, حجاج pray the five daily نمازs, shortening the four-rak'ah نمازs (Dhuhr, Asr, and Isha) to two rak'ahs each but performing each نماز at its proper time without combining. The night is spent in worship, reflection, and preparation for the most important day of حج — the standing at عرفات. This is a day of spiritual preparation, and حجاج are encouraged to occupy themselves with تلبیہ, dhikr, and دعا. The stay at منیٰ on this day is considered Sunnah, not Wajib, جمہور علماء کے مطابق.
