The Standing at عرفات (Wuquf) on the 9th of Dhul Hijjah is THE central pillar of حج. نبی کریم (صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم) said: 'حج is عرفات.' A حاجی who misses عرفات has missed حج entirely. The wuquf begins after Dhuhr and extends until Fajr of the 10th. Being present anywhere within the boundaries of عرفات fulfills the obligation. The afternoon is devoted to intense دعا.
On the morning of the 9th of Dhul Hijjah, depart from منیٰ after sunrise and travel to the plain of عرفات, approximately 14 km from منیٰ. Continue reciting the تلبیہ. Upon arrival, locate your assigned tent.
When the sun passes its zenith (Dhuhr time), pray Dhuhr (2 rak'at) and Asr (2 rak'at) combined at the time of Dhuhr, with one adhan and two iqamah calls. This is agreed upon by all four schools, including the Hanafi school.
These are the most frequent errors pilgrims make during this stage of Hajj.

After praying, devote yourself entirely to دعا and دعا until sunset. This is the supreme moment of حج. نبی کریم said: 'The best دعا is on the Day of عرفات, and the best thing I and the prophets before me said is: La ilaha illa Allahu wahdahu la sharika lah, lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu wa huwa ala kulli shay'in qadir.' Use your prepared دعا list, make دعا in any language, and pour your heart out to Allah.
While دعا is the primary worship, vary your activities to maintain focus: alternate between دعا, قرآن recitation, dhikr, istighfar, salawat upon نبی کریم, and silent contemplation. Drink water regularly. Take brief rest breaks if needed.
Stay at عرفات until after sunset. Do NOT leave before sunset — نبی کریم remained at عرفات until the sun had fully set. Intensify your دعا in the final hour before Maghrib, as this is considered the peak of acceptance.
After sunset, depart calmly for مزدلفہ. Do NOT pray Maghrib at عرفات — the sunnah is to delay Maghrib and combine it with Isha at مزدلفہ. Walk or ride with dignity and tranquility. Continue reciting the تلبیہ.
