ذو الحليفة / أبيار علي
Dhul Hulayfah, also known as Abyar Ali, is the miqat point for حجاج traveling from مدینہ منورہ to مکہ مکرمہ. Located about 9 km southwest of مسجد نبوی, it is the farthest miqat from مکہ مکرمہ (approximately 450 km). نبی کریم Muhammad (PBUH) entered احرام from this location. A large modern مسجد with احرام facilities serves millions of حجاج annually.
Dhul Hulayfah is the miqat designated by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) for the people of مدینہ منورہ and those passing through مدینہ منورہ on their way to مکہ مکرمہ. نبی کریم himself entered احرام from this location during his Farewell حج. The name Abyar Ali (Wells of Ali) comes from wells attributed to Ali ibn Abi Talib (RA). The site has been developed with a large modern مسجد (Masjid ash-Shajarah, 'Mosque of the Tree') named after a tree under which نبی کریم (PBUH) is said to have rested. The current complex accommodates tens of thousands of حجاج.
Dhul Hulayfah is the most historically authenticated miqat, being the point from which نبی کریم (PBUH) entered احرام for his only حج. It marks the spiritual transition from ordinary travel to the sacred state of احرام. Passing this point without entering احرام (if intending حج or عمرہ) is not permitted.
Dhul Hulayfah is a major stop on the road from مدینہ منورہ to مکہ مکرمہ. Buses and cars stop here for حجاج to enter احرام. The complex includes a large مسجد, extensive washroom and shower facilities, separate changing areas for men and women, and shops selling احرام garments and supplies. Perform غسل (مستحب), put on احرام clothing, pray two rak'ahs, and make your niyyah (intention) for حج or عمرہ. Then begin reciting the talbiyah. The facility operates 24/7 during حج and عمرہ seasons. Plan your stop here if traveling by road from مدینہ منورہ.
