সাঈ by Proxy(السعي بالنيابة) The performance of সাঈ on behalf of another person who is unable to perform it themselves due to permanent physical incapacity, severe illness, or death. This is part of the broader framework of হজ্জ al-Badal (proxy হজ্জ).
السعي بالنيابة
Islamic jurisprudence permits হজ্জ by proxy (হজ্জ al-Badal) for individuals who are permanently unable to perform হজ্জ — due to old age, terminal illness, or death — and সাঈ is included as part of that complete proxy হজ্জ. The proxy performs all rituals including সাঈ with the intention (niyyah) for the person they represent. However, performing সাঈ alone by proxy (separate from a complete হজ্জ or উমরাহ) is not a standard practice in any of the four schools. A person who is temporarily ill during হজ্জ but capable of সাঈ at a later time should delay and perform it themselves when able. Those who cannot walk but are present may perform সাঈ in a wheelchair or be carried, which is preferred over proxy.
