دَم
Dam is a specific type of Fidyah that requires the jamaah haji to slaughter an animal, typically a sheep or goat, within the boundaries of the Haram. It becomes wajib in several situations: when a jamaah haji performing Haji Tamattu or Haji Qiran must offer a thanksgiving sacrifice, when a Wajib act of Haji is omitted (such as missing the overnight stay at Muzdalifah), or when certain Ihram violations are committed. The animal must meet specific criteria regarding age and health. If a jamaah haji cannot afford the Dam, they must instead fast for ten days — three during Haji and seven after returning home. The meat from the Dam sacrifice must be distributed among the poor and needy.
